Starland County and the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre collaborated to deliver the Starland Solar Initiative. The goal of the initiative was to support community members in adopting renewable energy through the installation of solar photovoltaic systems.
Through the Starland Solar Initiative residents were eligible to receive a solar installation grant of fifty cents per watt up to a maximum of $5,000. The project resulted in 12 solar arrays being installed by local farmers, totaling 105 kilowatts in capacity. Combined, these systems will generate 126,000 kWh/year in clean energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 82 tonnes/year.
Solar Implementation Toolkit
As part of the initiative, a Solar Implementation Toolkit was created to provide guidance and tools to help other communities administer a similar program. The Toolkit contains helpful resources such as project investment analysis, marketing and training materials, solar permitting guidelines, and sample microgeneration application and funding agreements.
